Wendell Berry, Rest in Peace and Power

My daughter holding the best of our recent glass gem corn harvest from our wee front yard garden.

When my heart was searching for direction many years ago, I found the words of Wendell Berry, the Kentucky farmer, philosopher, author, and poet. As the soil and plants were healing my deepest wounds, his words flowed into my life like an earth elixir — sentimental, steady, profound, and wise. His heart, to me, is the true American heart…an agrarian heart…a forested heart…a place-based heart…a heart of land stewardship.

RIP Mr. Berry. A legend has left us but I know he will be doing the good work from the other side.

Here is the quote I keep on the landing page of my website:

“To be healthy is to be whole and to be holy. It is to acknowledge the great goodness that our bodies are linked to the bodies of other people, to the bodies of plants and animals, indeed to the earth, the sun and moon, and the other heavenly bodies. It is to receive the awareness, at once humbling and exhilarating, that we are a part of Creation, one with all that we live from and all that, in turn, lives from us.” ~ Wendell Berry
