Inheriting Life

“We shall not cease from exploration, and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.” ~ T.S. Eliot

give over your own willing,
give over your running —
i know you must be tired.

give over your own desiring to know
or be anything,
and sink down into the seed
that the Mystery planted
in your deepest heart chamber.

let it be in you,
let it grow into you —
let it act through you…

and then you will come to know,
through this bliss,
the simple truth
of your Self
and that it is not owned
by you at all.

let this
lead you into
the inheritance of life,
all that this is your noble right.

“The feeling of being in control can graciously give way to a more mature possibility of resting in what is, no longer mentally demanding how we want it to be.” ~ Susan Murphy (excerpt from “It Speaks Silence” in Parabola)

May 29, 2010 — an adaptation of words from a 17th Century Quaker — Isaac Penington in his work, ‘Some Directions to the Panting Soul’
