What Anticipation Has Taught Me

What Anticipation Has Taught Me

Make sure there is something that
you wait for in nature.

Every year…
…something that you wait for…

(…at least ONE thing………at least!)

Learn to enjoy the anticipation…
Learn what to look for…and when…

Let every year be a rehearsal for the day
that awe ripples through your senses.

Where to start,
you may ask?

Right
where
you
are.

There are too many things
that you could wait for…

Some have feathers,
some have roots,
and some slither.

I could go on…

But, no matter what…wait for them…

Let them know that you
are interested in their
curious ways.

Often, with your presence
and persistence,
they will reveal to you
another layer
of insight
that will surely crack you open
like a spring egg
full of hungry beak.

Now that life
has seasoned me
with time,
I wait for so many things…
And, they greet me
like long lost friends…

Some are dormant through the winter.
Some fly to other places, only to return.
Some bury themselves in the earth,
their bodies pressed
into the soil’s steady calm.

Yes, I have learned to wait.
And, I have even learned to make
my amazement audible.

(Yes, she wants to hear our voices!)

So, I speak softly
when the time has come
and say,
“I remember you.”
And, the words are
round and resonant
with a familiar affection.

And, it’s at that moment
that wonder
is fed,
and the
soul body
resists
any
decay
from spiritual neglect.

The main lesson
from my time spent
in anticipation?

…let me say this…

All she wants
is to be
witnessed.

…in every way…
seen.

And, all we want
is to show
how we can
praise.

  1. Hi, Precious Southern Belle!

Loved this (and ALL) post of yours! So sweet.

I’ve been enjoying listening to a lot of Peter Santenello videos of the deep DEEP south and also our Indian reservations. The South is an amazing place for sure! So VERY different from other places in the US and I love it and feel like I should be there — have always been drawn to Shenandoah!

    xoxo

    • Hi there Barbara, the South is a fascinating place…very biodiverse…and a very complicated and layered history in these parts… I have not heard of this person, Peter…I will look him up πŸ™‚
